The novel watches how ordinary life becomes emotionally charged: a charger left beside a bed, a hair tie in a car, a room altered by somebody’s presence, a phone turned face-down, a sentence remembered years later. What matters is not only what happened — but what each person believes that moment meant.
What remains
Ayan remembers dates, sequences, rooms, phrases and physical details with unusual care. The novel gradually asks what memory can preserve — and what certainty memory cannot guarantee.
What becomes ordinary
Intimacy appears in the small permissions of daily life: knowing where something is kept, sharing a room, waiting in a car, making coffee, leaving belongings behind and being allowed to witness another person when nothing important seems to be happening.
What must be answered
Ayan’s instinct is to resolve uncertainty. That instinct makes sense in systems and numbers. With people, the same need for an answer can collide with another person’s right to remain unfinished, contradictory or simply unsure.
